Dr. El-Dakahkhni's expertise is in the area of structural response to extreme dynamic loading including earthquake and blast events. In this regard, Dr. El-Dakhakhni serves as a voting member in several national and international standards and professional organization committees. He has two main research groups: the first is focused on the seismic response of masonry buildings while the second is focused on masonry, concrete and steel component performances and human injury thresholds under blast loading. Dr. El-Dakhakhni's research interests also extend to the development of low-cost seismic-safe housing utilizing innovative composite systems and the general area of structural retrofit/strengthening against extreme earthquakes and explosions using composites.
