Dr. Liao’s research focuses on nature-based solutions and green infrastructure, water quality and stormwater management, plant-soil-water interactions, environmental monitoring and remediation, and remote sensing.
Subject areas include stormwater and wastewater treatment in urban, rural, and Arctic environments; the design and monitoring of green infrastructure; media amendments (e.g., biochar) and material functionalization; contaminants of emerging concern (e.g., microplastics and nanoplastics); plant performance and soil health; and the assessment of water quality and vegetation performance using remote sensing.
