Bio/Research

Dr. Yu obtained her Ph.D. from the Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University. She was a three-time Fulbright Scholar and did research in Egypt, Israel, Australia, and Senegal. Dr. Yu was a recipient of Freeman Fellowship for Japan Studies and she was also a Philip S. Weld Fellow and a Rolan D. Melton Fellow of the American Press Institute.

Dr. Yu teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses which include Communication Theory, Media Law, Intercultural Communication, News Media and International Journalism, and International Advertising and Public Relations among others. Dr. Yu has authored a number of journal articles, book chapters, and books including “Digital Power: Public Participation in an Environmental Controversy” in China’s Environmental Crisis: Domestic and Global Political Impacts and Response, “Corruption, Impact of Corruption, and Measures to Curtail Corruption” in China in Search of a Harmonious Society, “China: U.S. Partner, Competitor, or Threat—What Do the Americans Think?” in Challenges Facing Chinese Political Development, and “Market Economy and Social Justice: The Predicament of the Underprivileged” in The Journal of Comparative Asian Development.
