Bio/Research

Claus Rinner is a professor, undergraduate program director, and former graduate program director and chair in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson). He holds a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics from Université Paul-Valéry, Montpellier, France; a master's degree in applied systems science from the University of Osnabrück, Germany; and a PhD in geography from the University of Bonn, Germany. His research and teaching expertise is in the areas of geographic information systems (GIS), cartography, and decision support systems, with applications in public health, social policy, and environmental planning. Dr. Rinner holds an NSERC Discovery Grant and has also participated in research funded by CIHR, SSHRC, and the Network of Centres of Excellence. His scholarly research is widely cited with an h-index of 27 and eight publications with over 100 citations as of June 2021.
